Govardhan puja, known as Annakoot as well, which is a Hindu festival, is celebrated in many Indian states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra. The most profound is the one, in which it is believed that lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill to provide the villagers of Vrindavan shelter from torrential rains. Another belief is that, celebration is done for the victory of Lord Krishna over Lord Indira. This festival occurs on the first lunar day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Kartik, which is the fourth day of Diwali. The devotees offer a mountain of food, metaphorically representing the Govardhan parvat, which also restores love and faith in God.
